2nd annual Orillia Cheeseburger Challenge in support of The Terry Fox Foundation

Are you ready to release your ‘Inner Iron Chef’?

ORILLIA, ON – Delighted by the response from the community for the first-ever Orillia Cheeseburger Challenge, organizers have set the date, refined entry guidelines, and are ready for a successful encore.

On Sunday, September 11, 2011 between 12:30 and 4:00 p.m., Era 67 Restaurant’s outdoor patio on Mississaga Street will be hosting entries for the second annual Orillia Cheeseburger Challenge in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. Entrants, their supporters, the judging panel, and members of the Orillia Terry Fox Run Committee will welcome everyone to attend.

For 2011, contestants will complete entry forms, including a list of ingredients and preparation instructions and will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, September 8th. Entry forms and the judging criteria are available by contacting Era67 Restaurant’s Sarah Valiquette by e-mail at sarahvaliquette@era67.com

The judging panel – including local VIPs and celebrities -- will award points based on taste, presentation, and the feasibility of reproducing the winning version of Terry Fox’s favourite food at participating restaurants during Terry Fox Week in Orillia from September 12th to 18th. The proceeds from sales of the winning entry at the participating restaurants – Era67 and Zat’s Restaurant in Orillia and the Mill Street Bistro in Coldwater -- will be turned over to the Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research.

Members of Orillia’s Terry Fox Run Committee will be on hand to accept donations, provide pledge forms, and will have commemorative t-shirts and shoelaces available for sale. Burgers and beverages will be available for sale during the event while competitors have their creations scored.

Cheeseburger Challenge trophy winner Theo Page is expected to be back to defend the 2010 title captured by his “Terry Fox Tapatizer” from about 40 opponents.

Follow the 2nd Annual Cheeseburger Challenge in Support of the Terry Fox Foundation on Facebook for updates on the event, participating judges, and information about the Orillia Terry Fox Run. The 2011 Orillia Terry Fox Run will be held at Couchiching Beach Park on Sunday, September 18th. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the run begins at 1:00 p.m.

QUOTES

“The response and the buzz created leading up to last year’s event were simply incredible. We had people asking us if we were doing it again ever since…we couldn’t refuse. It’s a fantastic opportunity for anyone to release their ‘inner iron chef’ for a great cause.”

– Sarah Valiquette, Co-proprietor - Era67 Restaurant

“The awareness and excitement created by this event is a fantastic kick-off to the week that culminates in the annual Terry Fox Run on September 18th. Sarah and Ian’s enthusiasm for this community and our cause is infectious…and embodies this year’s theme ‘Working Together to Outrun Cancer’. We’re proud to be the beneficiaries of their drive and spirit.”

– Alison Stoneman, Orillia Terry Fox Run organizer.

Orillia Terry Fox Run - 2011

The Orillia Terry Fox Run Committee is working hard on all the details for the annual Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research. The theme this year is "working together to outrun cancer". This theme describes what happens every year in Orillia - the community comes together and assists us in hosting this event - we have donations of prizes, supplies, food and drink from businesses in our area - and we have hundreds of participants who run, walk, ride, blade and who bring their pledges and donations. We come together every year and raise much needed funds for cancer research.

Please consider joining us this year - Sunday, September 18th at 1pm in Orillia at Terry Fox Circle in Couchiching Beach Park. Registration begins at 11:30am. There is no entry fee, no minimum pledge and the event is non-competitive. We have a 1km route, a 5km route and a 10km route along our beautiful waterfront trail.

Come and join some wonderful people for a walk in the park!
